What is induced menopause?
Answered By Macy Waltersson and Brian Laing, Editors
Induced menopause is otherwise known as
surgical menopause. Women who had their
ovaries removed surgically experience this.
Induced menopause can also be a result of
damaged ovaries due to radiation or
medications that is used in chemotherapy.
There is a hormonal in-balance due to the
loss of ovarian hormones resulting to
menopausal symptoms, including hot flushes,
vaginal dryness, and night sweats. Women who
had hysterectomies (the uterus is removed but
not the ovaries) don't experience induced
menopause because the ovaries still produce
hormones.
