When does a woman usually start menopause?
Answered By Macy Waltersson and Brian Laing, Editors
The average age for women to start undergoing
menopause is 50.5 years. But there are women
who have menopause at a much younger age,
especially those who suffered from cancer and
other illnesses and went through
chemotherapy. There is also the so-called
'premature menopause,' which occurs before a
woman turns 40. Its known cause is autoimmune
disorders, diabetes mellitus and thyroid
disease. During the mid-30's, there is a
significant decline in the ovaries'
production of hormones, and in the late 40's
the process usually accelerates.
