Why do women sometimes get hysterectomies during menopause?
Answered By Macy Waltersson and Brian Laing, Editors
Women get hysterectomies because they don't
want to experience surgical or induced
menopause that results from the removal of
the ovaries. They are not able to experience
induced/surgical menopause because the
ovaries still produces hormones. Hysterectomy
can be partial or total. Total hysterectomy
involves the removal of the uterus and the
cervix, while in partial hysterectomy only
the uterus is removed.
