What do estrogen and progesterone do to my body?
Answered By Macy Waltersson and Brian Laing, Editors
Estrogen is a female sex hormone produced by
the ovaries. It is responsible for
uterine-lining stimulation during the 1st
half of a woman's menstrual cycle to prepare
for possible ovulation and pregnancy. It also
develops the female sex-characteristics.
Progesterone is another female hormone. This
works during the 2nd half of the woman's
menstrual cycle which creates a lining inside
the uterus making it a viable home for a
fertilized egg, and sheds the lining when
eggs are not fertilized. Your body does not
have enough progesterone that could breakdown
the lining of the uterus if you constantly
skip a period.
