Can a woman become pregnant during perimenopause?
Answered By Macy Waltersson and Brian Laing, Editors
Yes, there have been instances that women in
their perimenopausal stage still got
pregnant. It is during the perimenopause
stage that the ovaries slow down in producing
hormones, that is why women can still get
pregnant because hormones are still present,
though at smaller levels. This is not
impossible, although it is quite improbable.
Today, women (who are non-smokers) in their
perimenopause and menopause periods are
advised to take low-dose contraceptives to
serve as estrogen replacements.
